What are the Basic Steps?

Formulate an outline of possible discussion topics.  This makes the interview flow much more naturally, because it focuses on topics that are important and pertinent to the individual that is being interviewed.
Plan the project. Consider such things as end products, budget, who will perform the interview, equipment, and time frames.
Conduct background research – names and dates of family members
Then the Actual Interview.
Process interviews typically by having the interview transcribed and put into typed form, so that it can be edited more efficiently.
Evaluate research and interviews – Determine if there are areas that are lacking and go back and re-interview the individual for missing information.
Organize the information in the transcripts, incorporate photographs, which help make the written word come alive.
Determine how the final project will be preserved…either in a scrapbook format, bound in a hardcover book….or in a soft-sided book….or spiral bound book, depending on an individual’s budget.
Use acid-free materials in order to preserve the Family History Album for many generations to come.
